The article discusses the prospects for the use of alternative fuels in water transport. Advantages and disadvantages of various types of fuels in comparison with oil fuel are given. The influence of alternative fuels on the environment is analyzed. The choice of biofuel as the most promising fuel is justified. The technology of biofuel production is considered. The recommendations of leading manufacturers of marine diesel engines on the use ofbiofuels are given. Conclusions are drawn about the possibility of using biofuels as fuel for marine diesel engines.
