Abstract (English):
This article discusses the prospects for the development and use of biofuels on ships of the merchant fleet, at the present time and in the near future. Development and improvement of fuel production technologies. Poten-tial, economic component and rationality of using biological fuels in comparison with fossil fuels. The article presents and discusses the main promising processes for the manufacture of biological fuel that currently exists. Their availability and economic features of production and impact on the environment. The negative impact of emissions on the environment and human health is considered. Comparison of the efficiency of fossil fuels and biological. Storage conditions and operational features of biological fuels. The article uses fresh data based on IMO reports prepared for UN meetings
