Development of shipping of LNG from fields of the Arctic basin led to emergence of the highly specialized vessels which are characterized by a number of essential design, technical, technological, operational and other features. This type of vessel possesses a unique set of ship technical means which joint operation determines the general /eve/ of safety of transportations, but in view of lack of practice of use of such vessels and lack of the corresponding specialized regulatory base, the convsponding basic principles and integrated approaches are not created yet. In article the analysis of accident rate of the world fleet is carried out, some of the major factors of risk connected with technical operation of ship technical means of modem gas tankers are considered and analysed and measures of prevention of emergencies are formulated that can he a basis for development of uniform standard bases of safe operation of this perspective type of vessel.
