The activity of modem navigators and ship engineers in greater extent acquires a cognitive character, consisting in collecting data on the functioning of systems used in navigation, their understanding, interpretation, operational control of automation, analysis and management of systems, and making complex, responsible decisions. Despite the complexity of the information technologies being implemented in the industry, the prerogative of solving tasks remains with the human operator. The growing dependence on complex systems in the operation of ships imposes certain requirements and restrictions on a specialist, whose training process can be successful only with a deep understanding of the principles of functioning of ergatic systems at all levels of interaction of various elements of this system.
